Textile
Textile is an urban art center created within a former blanket factory in Deqing County, an area with a long silk weaving history. The renovation retains historical elements of the old building and follows its original architectural structure. Broken lines integrate the building form into the interior. LED light strips recall yarn and weaving machines. The 2000 square meter space holds a historical exhibition hall and a community art center with a library for young people. Cultural memory is joined with new public functions.
Textile Art Center by Kris Lin has been recognized as a creative example of communication design by the A' Design Award & Competition. Textile Art Center received the Silver A' Design Award in Cultural Heritage and Culture Industry Design in 2020. The A' Cultural Heritage and Culture Industry Design Award is an international, juried, academic and meritocratic design accolade which celebrates excellent design of cultural heritage projects, cultural conversation, preservation, restoration and protection projects, heritage architecture and more.
