Ice Core Art Installation

Ice Core

Ice Core Visualization is an art installation that shows the relationship between carbon dioxide levels and global climate. The installation is made of eight acrylic tubes filled with layered gel wax. Each tube is 8 inches in diameter and 3 feet long. Each wax layer represents average data for a thousand-year period, covering the last four hundred thousand years in total. A greyscale scheme shows the variation of carbon dioxide. A second scheme uses red for heat and blue for cold to show temperature variation.

Ice Core Art Installation by YINGRI GUAN has been highlighted as a grand illustration of communication design by the A' Design Award. Ice Core Art Installation was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in Fine Arts and Art Installation Design in 2021. The A' Fine Arts and Art Installation Design Award is an international, meritocratic, just and fair design recognition program that celebrates superior design of sculptures, paintings, installations, photographs, drawings, mixed media works, ceramics, art objects, craftworks and more.
