Tie
Tie is a wooden bench designed for two people to sit side by side. The seat and backrest are carved by hand from a solid block of wood, so no bent wood, cushions or springs are used. Traditional Japanese hand planes and knives shape the curves and keep the natural beauty of the wood visible. The curved backrest lets two people seated together rest close to one another. Tie suits dining, reading with the legs stretched out, or lying down in different positions. The current form was completed in 2020 in Tokyo, Japan.
Tie Chair by Shigeki Matsuoka has been selected as a grand example of industrial design by the A' Design Awards. Tie Chair was awarded the Golden A' Design Award in Furniture Design in 2021. The A' Furniture Design Award is a highly prestigious, international, juried design prize which rewards excellent design of chairs, tables, sofas, beds, cabinets, shelves, desks, wardrobes and more.
