Bonyeon Biodegradable Material

Bonyeon

Bonyeon is a biodegradable material used for household products such as lighting and trays. Bonyeon consists only of discarded agricultural and fishery byproducts, such as rice bran, bark and seaweed, bound with natural adhesives of proteins and microorganisms. The material is light and durable, and imitates the colour, scent and texture of nature. Bonyeon decomposes completely in a natural environment and leaves no harmful substances. Production is possible in a small workshop or at home with little capital, and the use of byproducts adds income for farming and fishing villages.

Bonyeon Biodegradable Material by Jooen Lee was highlighted as an exceptional representation of industrial design by the A' Design Award. Bonyeon Biodegradable Material earned the Iron A' Design Award in Sustainable Products, Projects and Green Design in 2021. The A' Sustainable Products, Projects and Green Design Award is an international, juried, academic and meritocratic design prize which rewards outstanding design of sustainable projects, environment friendly designs, recycled, upcycled, bio-degradable products, Energy-Efficient appliances and more.
