Shang Yuan
Shang Yuan is a landscape design for a demonstration center in Wuxi, China. The overall layout draws on the dignified form of the Summer Palace, while the details refer to the delicate gardens of the Jiangnan region. The plan follows a pattern of one hall, two axes, three entrances, five rituals and six gardens, so each garden offers a different view to moving visitors. Techniques such as hollow-out walls and borrowed scenery extend the sense of space. Building roofs adopt Tang-style cornices, and permeable, wear-resistant materials support urban rainwater management.
Shang Yuan Demonstration Center by C&D Inc. (Wuxi Subsidiary) has been identified as a grand example of architectural design by the A' Design Award & Competition. Shang Yuan Demonstration Center received the Silver A' Design Award in Landscape Planning and Garden Design in 2021. The A' Landscape Planning and Garden Design Award is an international, jury-voted, fair and ethical design competition which recognizes outstanding design of landscape designs, public parks, residential gardens, urban plazas, campus designs, green roofs, waterfront developments, Eco-Parks, botanical gardens and more.
