The Essence
The Essence is a residential interior design for an apartment in Taiwan. A large beam crosses the apartment at a height of less than 210 centimetres. Both sides of the beam are covered with large zebra wood, with titanium-plated metal at the bottom, turning the beam into a focal point. The ceiling meets the beam through oblique angles and curves, which extends the view upward and makes the space appear broader. A long table serves as both a living and a dining area. Most storage is placed in the private rooms, and hidden cabinets keep the shared space simple.
The Essence Residence by KAO SHIH CHIEH was recognized as a grand illustration of architectural design by the A' Design Award & Competition. The Essence Residence earned the Bronze A' Design Award in Interior Space and Exhibition Design in 2022. The A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award is an international, meritocratic, just and fair design accolade that honors excellent design of residential interiors, restaurants, hotels, offices, galleries, retail stores, showrooms, exhibition spaces and more.
