Selfors
Selfors is a house created through the rehabilitation of a modernist villa from the 1960s. The original villa was partly altered by a prefabricated addition in the 1980s. The new design respects the modernist character of the earlier building. The three-story house covers 200 square meters and is arranged around a central staircase that acts as a natural ventilation shaft between the floors. A glazed south facade collects sunlight. The original wood structure was reused, and a new facade and new windows were added. Sheltered outdoor spaces surround the house.
Selfors Housing by Hans-Petter Bjørnådal has been identified as a creative illustration of architectural design by the A' Design Award. Selfors Housing received the Iron A' Design Award in Architecture, Building and Structure Design in 2022. The A' Architecture, Building and Structure Design Award is an international, juried, academic and meritocratic design accolade which celebrates exceptional design of skyscrapers, museums, residential buildings, commercial complexes, educational institutions, religious structures, infrastructure designs, landscaping projects and more.
