Origin
Origin is a dental clinic interior in Taipei, Taiwan, planned for patients treated for sleep apnea through orthodontic care. The treatment rooms are shaped like eggs, recalling a nest, a plant pod or a protective shell. Curved surfaces soften the boundaries between floor, walls and ceiling, and the lighting creates a mild and safe atmosphere. The shapes were simulated in three dimensions and cut by computer controlled machines, then assembled on site and covered with curved plates. The layout keeps the movement and function of the medical equipment intact.
Origin Dental Clinic by Lieh-Wei Liu was highlighted as a creative illustration of architectural design by the A' Design Awards. Origin Dental Clinic was awarded the Golden A' Design Award in Interior Space and Exhibition Design in 2022. The A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award is an international, meritocratic, just and fair design recognition program that honors superior design of residential interiors, restaurants, hotels, offices, galleries, retail stores, showrooms, exhibition spaces and more.
