Wine and Chess
Wine and Chess is a wine case for six bottles that also serves as a chess set. Each bottle rests in a dedicated niche, and two spaces inside hold the bags with the chess pieces. When the cover is turned upside down, a chessboard with alternating red and cream squares is revealed. The box structure is made of gray wooden MDF with natural oak veneer, and the four sides of the base are covered with red goatskin with stitching. The case measures 42 by 13 by 42 centimeters. The design allows the packaging to be kept and used long after the wine is drunk.
Wine and Chess Case by Andrei Filatov was selected as a creative illustration of communication design by the A' Design Award. Wine and Chess Case received the Iron A' Design Award in Packaging Design in 2022. The A' Packaging Design Award is a highly prestigious international design competition that honors superior design of bottles, boxes, cans, pouches, tubes, cartons, wrappers, bags and more.
