Dan Mo
Dan Mo is a retirement residence completed in February 2020 in Taichung, covering 440 square meters. The lotus flower inspired the design, and the architectural elements portray the parallel pattern seen on lotus petals. Mortar is applied to the surfaces with a special technique that makes the material tougher, denser and resistant to wind and rain. Apart from external tile cladding used to channel water, no further surface treatment is applied, which reduces material consumption. A circular path on the first floor links the function spaces and supports family interaction.
Dan Mo Residence by Ta-Hsiu Lee was selected as a creative example of architectural design by the A' Design Awards. Dan Mo Residence received the Silver A' Design Award in Architecture, Building and Structure Design in 2022. The A' Architecture, Building and Structure Design Award is an international, jury-voted, fair and ethical design recognition program that recognizes exceptional design of skyscrapers, museums, residential buildings, commercial complexes, educational institutions, religious structures, infrastructure designs, landscaping projects and more.
