East and West
East and West is a series of ceramic handicrafts shaped like ants. Each ant sculpture measures 160 millimeters in length, 120 millimeters in depth and 300 millimeters in height. The form is made by sculpture mold turning and fired at a high temperature of 1300 degrees. Recycled blue and white paper collected from workshops in Jingdezhen is combined with modern electroplating, joining Eastern decoration with Western style. Because the recycled paper differs in each piece, every ant is unique. The series expresses the idea of recycling and environmental protection.
East and West Ceramic Crafts by Chao Yang has been highlighted as an innovative representation of communication design by the A' Design Award. East and West Ceramic Crafts received the Iron A' Design Award in Fine Arts and Art Installation Design in 2022. The A' Fine Arts and Art Installation Design Award is a juried, academic and highly prestigious design competition that honors excellent design of sculptures, paintings, installations, photographs, drawings, mixed media works, ceramics, art objects, craftworks and more.
