A Monument Without Words
A Monument Without Words is a cultural and visitor centre located on the Cuisuba grassland in Guizhou, China. The centre stands on a mountain plateau at an altitude of nearly 2,000 metres, surrounded by highland meadows and mountains. The building form recalls a traditional altar of the Yi people, the local indigenous community, and a system of skylights creates a dialogue with the sky. The structure is built with a concrete frame and uses local sandstone, concrete and stained glass. The three floors serve both visitors and the local community.
A Monument Without Words Exhibition Center by Haobo Wei & Jingsong Xie was featured as an outstanding representation of architectural design by the A' Design Award & Competition. A Monument Without Words Exhibition Center won the Bronze A' Design Award in Architecture, Building and Structure Design in 2022. The A' Architecture, Building and Structure Design Award is an international, juried, academic and meritocratic design award which celebrates excellent design of skyscrapers, museums, residential buildings, commercial complexes, educational institutions, religious structures, infrastructure designs, landscaping projects and more.
