Knotted
Knotted is a bench designed as public furniture for indoor and outdoor spaces. The form is tied together like a ribbon to suggest connection and circulation. Discarded wire conduit pipe is bent by hand, bound with cable ties and fixed to structural stainless steel pipe legs. The complete structure is solid and stable, and the finish is unified in matte black. The pipe surface gives a soft impression, and the shape allows several sitting postures. Knotted reflects the idea of generational integration, where diverse lives are joined as one.
Knotted Bench by MINJU KANG was selected as a grand illustration of communication design by the A' Design Awards. Knotted Bench received the Bronze A' Design Award in Fine Arts and Art Installation Design in 2023. The A' Fine Arts and Art Installation Design Award is an international, jury-voted, fair and ethical design accolade which honors excellent design of sculptures, paintings, installations, photographs, drawings, mixed media works, ceramics, art objects, craftworks and more.
