Kitazawa
Kitazawa is a landscape and shared space design for the ground floor of a new collective residence in Setagaya-ku, Tokyo. The project covers the shared space, the garden and the parking area. Roof tiles from the former Japanese-style house on the site are mixed with terrazzo and applied by plastering, so the texture of the place is kept. The dead-end site was turned into a passage between alleys that also works as an evacuation route. Trees were replanted and an open biotope with benches was added for short breaks and for meetings between residents and neighbours.
Kitazawa Residential Space by Kitazawa Apartment design team was identified as an innovative example of architectural design by the A' Design Awards. Kitazawa Residential Space was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in Landscape Planning and Garden Design in 2023. The A' Landscape Planning and Garden Design Award is an international, meritocratic, just and fair design recognition program which rewards outstanding design of landscape designs, public parks, residential gardens, urban plazas, campus designs, green roofs, waterfront developments, Eco-Parks, botanical gardens and more.
