Pure Serenity
Pure Serenity is a residential interior design for a 42 year old split level house in Taichung, Taiwan. Voids are inserted between the levels to create visual continuity and to support interaction among family members. Circular window openings and moon gates refer to Suzhou garden architecture and frame views of nature. A circular patio brings daylight and fresh air into the interior. A book wall links the staircase to a mezzanine playroom. The original steel windows and roof are preserved, and concrete textured paint, terrazzo and reclaimed tiles are used.
Pure Serenity Residence by Ming Fa Chen has been selected as a grand representation of architectural design by the A' Design Awards. Pure Serenity Residence earned the Bronze A' Design Award in Interior Space and Exhibition Design in 2026. The A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award is an international, jury-voted, fair and ethical design competition that recognizes outstanding design of residential interiors, restaurants, hotels, offices, galleries, retail stores, showrooms, exhibition spaces and more.
