Transition
Transition is a flower exhibition that presents the 1400 year tradition of Japanese flower arrangement, known as ikebana, in a contemporary setting. The open layout has no rear wall, so visitors walk freely and view each arrangement from many angles instead of only from the front. Natural sunlight and responsive lighting change through the day, so the space and the living flowers shift continuously. Modular pedestals are 3D printed from recyclable resin and can be taken apart and reused. The level, barrier-free floor keeps all areas accessible.
Transition Exhibition by Shuhei Matsuyama was identified as an outstanding representation of service design by the A' Design Award. Transition Exhibition earned the Bronze A' Design Award in Event and Happening Design in 2026. The A' Event and Happening Design Award is an international, juried, academic and meritocratic design accolade that honors excellent design of trade fairs, award ceremonies, festivals, conferences, exhibitions, concerts, product launches, charity events and more.
