Tainan Embroidery
Tainan Embroidery is a collection of amulets and a tote bag made with machine embroidery factories in Tainan, Taiwan. Temple motifs, such as deity figures, carved pillars and old tapestries, are redrawn as modern patterns. The Dragon amulet joins a density of 40,000 stitches with printing for fine scales, while the Love amulet applies lingerie lace technology and holds incense ashes in an inner mesh pocket. The tote bag is made from circular yarn spun from leftover factory threads. The collection turns traditional amulets into everyday cultural objects.
Tainan Embroidery Amulet by Yi-Pei Wu has been identified as an outstanding representation of industrial design by the A' Design Award. Tainan Embroidery Amulet won the Bronze A' Design Award in Giftware Design in 2026. The A' Giftware Design Award is an international, meritocratic, just and fair design competition which honors superior design of candles, figurines, picture frames, decorative plates, ornaments, souvenirs, personalized mugs, collectibles and more.
