Japanese Taste
Japanese Taste is a retail outlet located in Kyoto Station in Japan. The store presents crafts, food, sake, cosmetics and daily goods made by artisans, farmers and producers from across Japan. The interior follows Japanese minimalism, using space, light, shadow and restraint instead of decorative motifs. A black toned exterior frames a warm interior of wood, stone and soft light. A large central table works as both display and stage, while vertical lattice elements add depth. The design turns a place of transit into a place of cultural encounter.
Japanese Taste Retail Outlet by SHUNSUKE OHE was featured as an innovative illustration of architectural design by the A' Design Awards. Japanese Taste Retail Outlet earned the Bronze A' Design Award in Interior Space and Exhibition Design in 2026. The A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award is an international, jury-voted, fair and ethical design award that celebrates outstanding design of residential interiors, restaurants, hotels, offices, galleries, retail stores, showrooms, exhibition spaces and more.
