Kinetic Chinese Characters
Kinetic Chinese Characters is a series of sixteen kinetic typography works based on the components of Chinese characters. Each work has a different subject and is produced purely through computer programming and algorithms, using Processing. The addition of generative technology makes the once fixed timeline of the characters variable and the results unpredictable. A short appreciation essay accompanies each work, following the Asian tradition of presenting poetry and painting together. The series shows how kinetic design can be applied to Chinese characters.
Kinetic Chinese Characters Typography by LI XINLIN has been identified as a creative example of strategy design by the A' Design Award. Kinetic Chinese Characters Typography earned the Iron A' Design Award in Generative, Algorithmic, Parametric and AI-Assisted Design in 2020. The A' Generative, Algorithmic, Parametric and AI-Assisted Design Award is an international, jury-voted, fair and ethical design recognition program that rewards superior design of algorithmic artworks, parametric architectures, generative graphics, AI-Assisted illustrations, computational sculptures, procedural patterns, evolutionary installations, interactive experiences and more.
