Venous Materials
Venous Materials is an interactive material that works as both a sensor and a display. Thin fluidic channels are formed inside soft silicone, and colored ink moves through the channels. When a user bends the material or applies pressure, the ink flow changes and creates visible patterns and color shifts. The material is soft and self-contained, and the motion of the user provides the energy. A computational design tool allows the geometry and the fluid flow to be simulated before production. Production involves laser engraving and laboratory processes.
Venous Materials Interactive Sensors and Display by Hila Mor has been featured as an exceptional representation of service design by the A' Design Awards. Venous Materials Interactive Sensors and Display was awarded the Silver A' Design Award in Design Quality and Innovation in 2021. The A' Design Quality and Innovation Award is an international, juried, academic and meritocratic design competition which celebrates excellent design of industrial designs and innovations with heightened ergonomics, sustainability, functionality, aesthetics, durability, usability, efficiency and more.
