Bamboo Sound
Bamboo Sound is a wayfinding system created for a hotel interior. The concise frame follows framing techniques drawn from South Chinese garden design. Multilayer frosted semitransparent acrylic is layered inside the frame, and the back is baked with white paint. Bamboo patterns are silk printed on the back of the acrylic, while the information is silk printed on the outer surface, creating distinct layers of depth. A copper frame is fixed around the acrylic. Changing ambient light leaves soft shadows on the surface, recalling bamboo leaves reflected on water.
Bamboo Sound Wayfinding System by Fengqi Gong has been recognized as a grand illustration of industrial design by the A' Design Award & Competition. Bamboo Sound Wayfinding System earned the Bronze A' Design Award in Building Materials and Construction Components Design in 2020. The A' Building Materials and Construction Components Design Award is an international, jury-voted, fair and ethical design competition which honors excellent design of bricks, beams, windows, doors, insulation materials, roofing materials, plumbing fixtures, electrical components and more.
